Description:Not surprisingly smoking was banned in the shelter. Safety would have been the main consideration but it is hard to imagine the ventilation coping well anyway. Above and to the right of the sign is a crudely fashioned metal candle holder. There are many on the walls still and at the time they would have been in every room and passage. The atmosphere must have been quite claustrophobic and eerie.
