Date:1889

Description:Walter Langley (1852-1922) devoted his life as a painter to scenes in the lives of fishing people in Cornwall. This work, from 1889, is slightly more dramatic than some in its depiction of off-stage events at sea impacting on people at home. Like many of his paintings this watercolour is now in the possession of the City Museum and Art Gallery in Birmingham, Langley's home town. Langley was born on Irving Street.
