Description:Norman Tiptaft contested the 1918 General Election for Handsworth as an Independent candidate. Tiptaft lived at 28 Wye Cliff Road in Handsworth and had been a cadet in the RFC (Royal Flying Corps) recently re-named as the RAF. Tiptaft was born in 1883 in Birmingham, he became a businessman and had his own comapny Tiptaft Ltd. Following his unsuccessful attempt to be elected as an MP he tried again at the Council elections in 1919 and was elected as a councillor. Tiptaft most famously served on the Housing and Estates Committee.
