Description:Photograph of balloon at Dudley Castle. Written on the reverse: "The Balloon. Dudley Castle Whitsun Fete, about 55 years ago. Aeronaut Lieut. Lempriere". The gentleman in top-hat was Councillor Fred Lempriere - for 12 years on Handsworth District Council. He was the father of the aeronaut. Lempriere's aeronautical displays with balloons and parachutes attracted large crowds. He and his family lived and worked in Handsworth for most of their lives.
