Description:Newscuttings, leaflets, tickets etc, relating to the Birmingham Shakespeare Reading Club. 1871-1903. The Birmingham Shakespeare reading club was established in 1866. This poster and programme are for a benefit for Mr James Bennett on Monday 19th May 1879, taking place at the Birmingham Town hall. There were to be costume recitals from Shakespeare's plays, 'As you Like it' and 'Othello, 'performed by members of the Shakespeare Reading club, The Birmingham Glee Union, Church of the Saviour Singing Class, and the Splendid band of the Universe Works. Mr James Bennett gave the recital of Anthony's oration over the dead body of Caesar and he also played Iago in Othello. 288943
