Description:The Tannery was first owned by the Edwards family and then by the Homer family. In 188 one of the Homer brothers split away to start a new tannery at Yardley which survived until 1966, one of the last traditional oak bark tanneries in the country. The Balsall Heath Tannery closed in 1832. A painting of Mr Homer's House in 1840 is shown in the photograph. It stood on the Moseley Road, opposite Balsall Heath Road.
