Description:As Birmingham grew and prospered successful business men began to build themselves substantial houses in Balsall Heath, especially long the Moseley Road as this was still a country area in the 1840s. The Orange Tree Tavern stood on the site of the present fire station. Originally it was a large private house, but by 1809 it had become a pub with attractive tea gardens and a bowling green.
