Date:October 1932

Description:In October 1932 the then Prince of Wales (later briefly Edward VIII) visited Birmingham and is here seen in Florence Street in a picture entitled 'Prince welcomed in the slums'. He is seen wearing a hat - the others in the party are respectfully carrying theirs - and accompanied by Councillor Pritchett, Chairman of the Estates Committee, who is no doubt explaining to the Prince that much of Florence Street was at the time scheduled for clearance. Bunting and other decorations are well in evidence, people lean out of upper windows and everyone seems to be smiling, but on the extreme right Just William surely constitutes a security risk.
