Date:4th of April 1967

Description:Headteacher Denis Lyons on the day of the visit by the princess:
"Punctually at 1135 a car drove in which contained the princess and Ald. Harold Tyler, the Lord Mayor. Various people concerned with the early development of the school (including the C.E.O.; Sir Lionel Russell) were presented and then HRH was taken on a 15 minute tour of the school.
She visited nearly all the rooms and chatted with children and teachers. She asked me several pertinent questions for example, about relations between teachers and parents. The group joined the platform party in the hall where the Princess formally declared the school open. She then proceeded to my room where she signed the visitors' book. Her first act was the unveiling of the granite plaque in the vestibule.
The whole party of officials then departed to the Council House where a Civic Lunch was held. The number of guests was 450. For the information of future heads I will add that the Scotch salmon was excellent also was the ordinary scotch. The strawberries were tasty too and I also enjoyed the champagne.
