Date:January - March 1967 (c.)

Description:The first two pages from the school diary for 1967. The entries read:

4 Jan: The new Junior School opened with about 5 classes, about 175 children. Although each block is now being used separately for infants and juniors, officially it will continue for an indefinite period to be a J.I. School. An estate on the opposite side of Gough Road is being built and this should cause a great increase in numbers during the coming year.

4 Jan: Mrs P. Slade absent three days owing to illness of her child...

11 Jan: New school now functioning smoothly. The empty (but furnished) rooms are being used for group work and needlework! The four on the top floor are in use as (a)Science cum Handwork Room (b)Projection & Visual Aid Room (c)Library (d)Games and Recreation.

22-27 Jan: Head busy visiting schools to interview applicants for Deputy Head. Applications received totalled 15 - 13 men and 2 women. This was very disappointing in view of the importance of and the opportunity attached to the Post.

9th Feb: Mr Whitmore, West Dist. Inspector called to discuss the short list.

10th Feb: Mrs Slade again absent all week owing to illness of her child...

13 Feb: Four students from C. Of Bham College began a final schools placement period.

16 Feb: Thurs prior to half term. Mrs Slade returned to school.

17 Feb: Half term weekend.

2 Mar: New Deputy Head appointed to commence duties on Monday 1st May. She is Mrs B.Heap, at present a Head of Dept (Maths) at Broadmeadow Junior School Kings Norton. I am very pleased with this appointment.

7th March: An opening ceremony has been arranged for Tuesday 4th April. This is right in the middle of the Easter Holiday! What a life! Details not known as yet.

7th M: A staff meeting was held to discuss this situation. Now known that ceremony will...
