Description:This volume, created by William Adlington Cadbury in old age, at a time when he was bed-ridden, is signed with the familiar signature (here poignantly shaky with old age) which in 1921 became the basis of the Cadbury logo.
"This one of my favourite items in the Central England Area Meeting archives, because it puts faces to the many Quaker names I regularly come across while cataloguing this collection and gives me lots of biographical information about the complex network of Quaker families they belonged to. Many of these were not only involved in the administrative and organisational life of the meeting but are also known for their important contributions to the development of the city of Birmingham, whether that be in business, industry or banking, local government, education, housing, health, penal reform or via philanthropic initiatives. I particularly like this photograph of some of the Friends enjoying a moment of relaxation on a bike ride, which is in stark contrast to the more formal meeting minutes I am used to reading. Thank you, W.A. Cadbury, for creating such a wonderful record of the Friends you knew."
