Description:The local pub has long been a social centre for the local people but is now in decline. Here are some of Balsall Heath's best known. This is The Orange Tree Tavern in a drawing from 1860.
The tea gardens of the tavern were a popular venue wtih Birmingham people who could cross the fields to it over the Rea valley and have a game of bowls or sample the tea or beer fo which it was renowned. The pub stood on the Moseley Road near Highgate Square.
