Description:Roy Hattersley was MP for Sparkbrook from 1964 to 1997 and deputy leader of the Labour party from 1983 to 1992. While he was deputy leader he also served as Shadow Chancellor and Shadow Home Secretary.

He "retired from politics" at the 1993 general election and was made Baron Hattersley of Sparkbrook, a life peer. He has since written several books including autobiographies. He has also written newspaper columns in the Daily Mail and Guardian.
