Description:The issues surrounding prostitution in Balsall Heath in the post-war era are complex. In the mid 1980s there were reckoned to be 450 prostitutes operating in the area. This estimate was made at the time of a documentary that most residents thought of as unrealistic. The first residents campaign followed within months of the documentary.

The image here shows one of many campaigns against kerb crawlers. This one was a co-operative effort between residents and police. Sign reads "Last 10 days 12 kerb crawlers arrested Do you want to be the 13th?"
