Description:The so called gladiator sandals were a must have fashion item in 2010. These womens pairs are colourful and stylish and a far cry from the orginals! Roman sandals first appeared in England as the brown leather military sandal (called caligae) worn by soldiers. These became the footwear of choice of many in Roman times, including gladiators after whom the modern sandals are now named. Probably the success of the Ridley Scott/ Russell Crowe film "Gladiator" contributed to the more appealing association.
