Description:Salma was one of our more controversial electees. She became councillor for Sparkbrook in 2006 representing the Respect party and was re-elected in 2010. She failed to be elected to parliament twice. She stood down due to ill-health in 2011. She was also leader of the Respect party for several years.
Her name has appeared on lists of the top 30 women shaping Britain (Harper's Bazaar), the Daily Telegraph's top 100 left-wingers, and the Equality and Human Rights Commission's Muslim Women Power List. She has made several appearances on Question Time on the BBC.
