Description:This district has elected many significant political figures over the years and these are some of the best known.

This is Percy Shurmer a councillor from 1921 to 1945 and MP from 1945 to 1959. He is best known for the annual christmas parties he gave at the council house for 1000 underprivileged children known as "Percy's Sparrows".
A new local primary school was named in his honour in 1964.
