Date:29th of April 1943 - 29th of May 1943 (c.)

Description:April 29. Weekend leave? Had a very nice time.
May 1. Went to Tiberias, a lovely old town. Had a boat out on the Sea of Gallilee and the boatman sang hymns as he rowed. We are quite near Nazareth and I've paid a visit to the Well where Mary drew water daily, a very lovely old church is built there.
9th May. Did my first two parachute jumps, a grand thrill (so long as the chute opens). 1000 ft drops.
May 10th. Two more jumps on today. Blackpool has got nothing on this......
May 11. Finished my ??? Doing a 350ft night drop. So tensed up that when the instructor spoke to me I almost jumped. Hit the deck smack on back, ok though. we have finished the course in six days, three months it should really take.
May 20. Left Nazareth.
May 22. After two days on the train we reached Amirya camp.
May 26. Left Alex by boat. Stew damn nigh every meal. I felt rotten for a whole day.
May 29. Arrived at Tripoli. The docks are a mass of sunken ships. Lovely....
