Description:Mosedale was born in Birmingham on 28th March 1894. At the age of 16 he joined the 5th Royal Irish Lancers and reached the rank of Corporal after three years. Shortly afterwards his parents died and he had to leave the service to look after his widowed grandmother and his younger brothers and sisters. He became a Railway Porter and soon after joined the Birmingham Fire Brigade. After he married he lived for a time in Great Colmore Street, Ladywood. During World War Two he served as a senior fireman, sepcialising in the use of breathing apparatus. On the night of 12th December 1940 he tunelled for nearly 12 hours in extremely dangerous conditions to rescue a dozen trapped people. For this he was awarded the George Cross.
