Description:A piece from the local press promoting the panto at the Prince Of Wales Theatre during the war. The theatre, on Broad Street, was destroyed by bombs and incendiaries during the war. Seen rehearsing for Cinderella are Joy Hayden, Elsie and Doris Waters, George Thomas, Amner and Jackley, Ida Nicklin (between them), Phyllis Godden and Doris Jenkins. The composer of the music, Hastings Mann, is sat at the piano. Mann was a prolific composer but there does not seem to be much information around on him other than his credits. Elsie and Doris Waters were an enormously successful music hall act who also had a big following on the radio. Their most famous creation was the "Gert and Daisy" double act; their brother was Jack Warner - famous for being "Dixon Of Dock Green". Ida Nicklin turns up listed in a few places and was clearly a singer of some note (pardon the pun). Doris Jenkins was also a singer and appeared on Broadway.
