Description:Sid Field was born at 103A Bell Barn Road in Ladywood. He grew up to be one of Britain's legendary comedians, though sadly his work can now only be seen via three films, one of which has only recently resurfaced and the other two are fairly obscure too! He made his first "straight" role when he accepted the part of Elwood P. Dowd in "Harvey". It was during the run of this play that Sid died from a heart attack. "Harvey" of course went on to be a major Hollywood film with James Stewart in the role of Dowd. The image here is of the front of the brochure for the show at the Prince Of Wales theatre in Coventry Street, London.
