Description:Washington Street is running off to the left while Holloway Head is in the foreground. This picture was taken just before the major rebuilding of the area as part of the Bath Row Redevelopment Scheme. Visible on the corner of the two roads is the premises of The John Engineering Company. Washington Street (along with Irving Street) was named in honour of the writer Washington Irving who wrote the story of Rip Van Winkle while stopping over in Birmingham with relatives.
