Date:20th of July 1967

Description:Some ten years after the closure was announced St Thomas' Primary School finally closed its doors for the last time on 20th July. The school was replaced in effect by two new schools - Lea Mason Secondary School on Bell Bar Road and St Thomas' Primary School on Great Colmore Street. Lea Mason had been completed first and so in 1967 it was just the infants and juniors left at the old school on Granville Street. The area had been substantially rebuilt after the war and the end of the old school was another major symbolic break with the past. For the last day at the school Herbert Green cam back for the day. He had been a former pupil and teacher at the school and can be seen in the centre of the photograph surrounded by the then current pupils. None of these pupils are named so any information as to who they are would be most welcome.
