Description:Another wrestling poster from the Tower Ballroom. the "bending" on the left is from the spine of the book it has been bound in. The event was promoted by Jack Callaghan Jnr sometime in the 30s probably. Some details are available on the wrestlers listed. Tony Mancelli was British Heavyweight Champion in 1955 and later worked as a referee. Maurice Letchford - "the ever popular wrestling boer" - was a bronze medal winner for Canada at the 1928 Olympics in the freestyle welterweight division. Sonny Wallace was a "new sensation" but details are lacking on him. Leo Lightbody, "the miracle boy from Huddersfield", is equally hard to find information on as is Saxon Elliott, "the blonde wrestling jack-in-the-box" and Costas Astroes the greek wrestler. The Iron Duke is most often attributed to William Muldoon who was a wrestler of great renown. As he was active in the Victorian period it would be unlikely to be him, so it would seem the name is one of those epithets used by many. Hans Lagren, "the wrecker of champions", would seem to be from Germany as the only reference to him on the internet is from there.
