Description:Robert Dunstan stood for the Labour Party in Ladywood at the 1923 General Election where he managed to reduce the sitting Conservative MP Neville Chamberlain's majority to 1,554. He became disillusioned with the Labour party during their year in power after the election and he joined the Communist party. The Rotten Park and Ladywood Labour party withdrew his membership and de-selected him - replacing him with Oswald Mosley. Dunstan briefly considered standing himself in Ladywood as a Communist (he enjoyed considerable personal support in the area) but instead he stood in Edgbaston where he lost to Sir Francis Lowe, the Conservative.
