Description:The Broadway Cinema was located on Bristol Street, near to Wrentham Street. This leaflet is from the 1920's; at the time the manager was Bernard F. Smith. One of the attractions, apart from films, was the "exceptionally fine Orchestra consisting only of brilliant solo performers under the direction of Mr C.V. Whalley - late of the Futurist". What makes this leaflet all the more fascianting is the range of adverts for local shops. Listed are the following:
Walter Price - cycle and motorcycle manufacturer and repairs of Ryland Road and Bellbarn Road.
C.R. Day - boot and shoe repairer of 123 Ryland Road.
Harrison's Stores - the noted store, apparently, for English rabbits, but also fresh fruit and vegetables, at Latimer Street.
Harold Baker, the peoples' butcher of Great Colmore Street.
H. Lee who repaired sewing machines at 40 Bristol Street.
Harris's, the milliners at 13 Wynn Street.
Ida French, Fancy Draper of 149 Bristol Street.
W.R. Moore, cycle repairs of 13 Sun Street.
H. Cooper, high-class boot and shoe repairer of 98 Ashley Street.
Mrs Blanche,Hardware and China dealer of 261 Sherlock Street.
E. Colver, a chemist at 26 Upper Ryland Road also specialising in Kodak camera supplies.
C.W. Draper, family butcher of 22 Wynn Street.
