Description:Thomas Sanders Ltd manufactured brass wares for the building and furnishing trades and first turn up at 13 St Mary Street, Ladywood, in the 1870s. As one of the traditional metalworking industries of Birmingham they had a good run for their money and remained in business on the same site until the early 1960s. The company was based on the south side of St Mary Street, between Great Tindal Street and Johnstone Street, but 1960s redevelopment has altered the area almost beyond recognition. The striking elephant's head trade mark in this 1940 advertisement is presumably meant to signify strength, but what are bull rings? Surely there was only one of those in Birmingham...
