Date:17th of November 1960

Description:St John's School, on the corner of Johnstone Street and St Mary Street, Ladywood, is seen here as it was on 17th November 1960. It opened as St John's National School in 1857 and last appears in directories as St John's Primary School in 1968/69, after which both the school and Johnstone Street vanished for ever beneath the new Ladywood Middleway and the associated redevelopment. The view looks north and in the distance, at the far end of Johnstone Street, are the buildings of Monument Road.
