Description:This row of shops was on the west side of Bristol Street, Lee Bank, on the corner of Spring Vale, just visible on the left. All of this disappeared in the construction of Lee Bank Middleway and its junction with Bristol Street. Above the canopy of the shop on the right the name 'Rubens' can be seen, showing that this is no. 231, the premises of M. Ruben & Co., ladies' tailors. To the left, at no. 241, is Payne's, shoe-repairers well-known all over Birmingham, and next to them at no. 239 E.G. Roberts Ltd, television sales and service. In 1960, around the time this photograph was taken, the remaining shops were, from left to right, the ABC Fruit Stores, 'Weave Craft', and ladies' outfitters 'Heather', although the window of no. 233 does not entirely look like a ladies' outfitters.
