Description:In this view looking towards the city in Bristol Street, Lee Bank, resurfacing work is well under way. There is a reason why only a strip down the centre is being resurfaced: the road is being restored after the removal of the tramlines, the last tram having run on this route in 1952. Visible on the right is the narrow tower of the Old Meeting Church, on the corner of Ashley Street, while beyond it is the Central Synagogue. A zebra crossing, complete with Belisha beacons, once a familiar feature of the streetscape, can also be seen. In what must be the mid to late 1950s the roadworks appear to be causing no major congestion.
