Description:When James Brindley built the first canal from Birmingham to Wolverhampton in 1772 - the 'original main line' - it took a winding course, following the contours of the land. Telford's 'new main line' in 1829 ironed out Brindley's winding route, cutting the distance to Wolverhampton by a third. The Oozells Street Loop is one of several sections of Brindley's original canal, still linked to Telford's new waterway and together forming the route known as the Birmingham Canal Navigations. Behind the camera is the junction with the main line and the St Vincent Street bridge. Since the 1990s this area has been transformed by the construction of new apartment blocks which turn their waterside setting to good use.
