Date:28th of August 1941

Description:In this newscutting from the Birmingham Gazette for 28th August 1941 the Lord Mayor of Birmingham and the Lady Mayoress are seen in the new block of the Children's Hospital in Ladywood Road. They are attending the unveiling, if that really is the appropriate word, of a cot maintained by the ship's company of H.M.S Birmingham, accompanied by Rear Admiral G.W. Goddard C.B. The latter was the Admiralty Area Officer, and is clearly trying to make the new recruit feel at ease. The Lord Mayor of Birmingham at this date was Wilfrid Martineau.
