Description:A portrait of Frederick William Wilkes, greengrocer of Lee Bank. In the 1901 Birmingham directory F.W. Wilkes makes his first appearance trading at 123 Great Colmore Street and for a short time afterwards he was apparently listed as a fried fish dealer too, at another address in the same street. The fish shop did not last for long but Mr Wilkes continued for a long time as a greengrocer at 118/119 Great Colmore Street and was well-known to local people. In advance of the redevelopment of the Lee Bank area the business moved from the large shop on the corner of Pigott to new premises in Harborne and on Hagley Road.
