Description:Portrait of Mr T.M. Colmore, J.P., Stipendiary Magistrate for Birmingham from 1888 to 1905. Thomas Milnes Colmore was born in 1845 into the Colmore family who had been in Birmingham from around 1500 and built up large estates. These included land in the city centre and the Lee Bank area, hence the names Colmore Row and Great Colmore Street. Before T.M. Colmore was born the estates had passed out of the ownership of the Colmore family, but they were still prominent in Birmingham life. One of Thomas Milnes' brothers was the vicar of Moseley and the other was a solicitor in Waterloo Street, while he himself finished up as Deputy Chairman of the Warwickshire Quarter Sessions. In his Who's Who entry his address is The Warren, Knowle, and his recreations are hunting and shooting. He died in April 1916.
