Description:St James' Church, Elvetham Road, Edgbaston. This view of the south porch brings out the way the low eaves resulted in a large expanse of tiled roof, leaving room for a dormer window. Teulon's 1852 design was less dull and conventional than many churches of the time. Samuel Sanders Teulon (1812-1873) had a large architectural practice which was responsible for much church building and restoration around this time, including St John's, Ladywood. He was also commissioned to design Elvetham Hall, Hampshire, for the Calthorpe family, which accounts for the name of the road.
