Description:Walter Langley (1852-1922) was born in Birmingham and was brought up in Irving Street. He trained at South Kensington School of Art (1873-75) and later on, in 1882, went to live in Newlyn, Cornwall, as one of the Newlyn School of painters. He was a genre painter, specialising in scenes of life among fishing people in fishing villages. This painting, called in full 'Never morning wore to evening, but some hard to break' (from Tennyson's 'In Memoriam') dates from 1894 and is now in the City of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
