The Council House was erected between 1874 and 1879. Yeoville Thomason had a large architectural practice in Birmingham and was also responsible for the Synagogue in Blucher Street, the Congregational Chapel in Edgbaston and Barclays Bank in Colmore Row, as well as the City Museum and Art Gallery.
