Description:An early postcard of Five Ways, Edgbaston, dating from around 1900. The view is looking westward along Hagley Road. To the left is the 1862 monument commemorating philanthropist Joseph Sturge; to the left, above the horse-bus, the building with the pinnacles is King Edward's Grammar School, Five Ways. It is a curious feature of early photographs of Five Ways that people always seem to be just hanging about on the island where Joseph Sturge's statue stands. Not many people can be seen propping up the bollards today at Five Ways although the Sturge monument still survives amidst the 20th-century redevelopment.
