Description:An early postcard view of the Town Hall, Birmingham. Even if it were not helpfully dated 1900 this would clearly be an early postcard because the message and the picture are on the same side: it was not until 1902 that picture postcards as we know them today were introduced, with the picture taking up one side of the card. The Town Hall, here seen from Victoria Square, was begun in 1832. Outsiders have often been puzzled by it, as the name elsewhere tends to mean what is called in Birmingham the Council House, and not a public auditorium.
