Date:22nd of October 1942 - 5th of November 1942 (c.)

Description:Edwards married a girl from Irving Street in Lee Bank - or Edgbaston B15 as it was then. During the Tobruk campaign he kept a diary which we are publishing here for the first time. Where words are unclear we have used question marks. This is page one.....

Oct 22. Given lecture by the c.o. on the plans of attack centred on 8 mile front.
Oct 23. The push starts with four hundred guns to sing old Jerry to sleep at 9.30. 400 rounds from each gun.
Oct 24. Moved up 22 miles and dug in with the N.Z. artillery and they had a bit of a do. Damn near blew us out of our hole. Heard one of our lads had died of wounds.
Oct 25. Moved up 10 miles near to Alamein Station. Dive bombed for five nights and plenty of fun in the daytime. Ground fire got a Jerry fighter (also one of ours; the pilot didn’t see the joke).
Oct 31. Moved back to let out tanks have a bit of a do.
Nov 2. Started moving up again.
Nov 3. Still moving up.
Nov 5. As we drove along we counted 56 Jerry’s (?) tanks and......
