Description:The Lee Bank I remember as a child 70 years ago was vastly different to what it is today, we even had three chemists!

I was born in 1898 in the part of Irving Street that no longer exists. The area consisted of mostly back-to-back houses. The main shopping area was in Cregoe Street, where I now live. The largest shop and also the main attraction was Bradshaw the Drapers, which occupied the corner of Latimer Street and Cregoe Street. Alas, Latimer Street no longer exists. The old people’s home now stands where it used to be.

(This photograph was taken in court 48 Irving Street of Agnes Groves with her dog Macky. Agnes sadly lost five children)
