Date:5th of June 1962

Description:Newsagent Thomas Bates was murdered in the course of a robbery at his premises on Lee Bank Road on June 2nd 1962. This photograph shows Chief Inspector Baumber talking to the deceased's brother inside the shop. The man convicted of this murder, Oswald Grey, was the last to be executed in Birmingham at Winson Green Prison.
