I’ve just moved in a few days ago. It’s a bit rough but it’s all right. I was staying in Edgbaston before and I used to live just up the road in Cleveland Tower, the blocks are being done up – it’s good. I’m from Acocks Green originally, but I’ve moved about a bit, travelled around. I’m one of those kinds of people, transient, I’m hoping to go to France soon.
I lived on travellers sites for years, I’m trying to settle down, I got sick of being hassled by the police… but I miss being outside all day. In flats people sit in and watch tele all the time.
I’m a punk. It’s my lifestyle. It stands for a lot. The punk scene is a little community. I’ve just had this tattoo done “No God, No Master” – it was an Amoebics track.
The changes to the area are good, man. I’m used to knocking about town so I like being close. It’s a good area. But I wouldn’t want the kids playing outside. Other than that it’s a nice area. It’s not the same as living on a street though. Everyone stays inside.’
However there are pockets within the blocks where there is a genuine sense of community, doors are open, we were welcomed like old friends and even the dog’s bark was friendly. Families have flats on the same landing and children run between them – which completely changed the nature of the communual space.
