Description:This engraving shows Mr William Middlemore's factory in Holloway Head. Middlemore first appears in the 1840s as a currier, saddler, harness maker, patent leather manufacturer, and army and navy accoutrement maker. Later in the 19th century he had built up a big wholesale saddlery business, later to become Middlemore & Lamplugh Ltd. Middlemore came from an old Birmingham family, was a benefactor particularly of the Baptist Church, and became a member of the first Town Council and a J.P.
