Description:Upper Marshall Street is located in the Holloway Head area between Commercial Street and Gough Street. This 1956 photograph shows the last remaining domestic dwellings on the road. The origin of the street name is a matter of conjecture but a likely explanation is it was named after the Prussian General Marshall Blucher, as nearby lies Blucher Street. Marshall Blucher achieved lasting fame as a result of his and the Prusssian army's intervention at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The arrival late in the day of the Prussian forces contributed to the final defeat of Napoleon.
