Introductury page of 'Inventory of the Plant and Machinery in the Engineering, Foundry, and Smithy Departments (including tools, &c. in Smithy), at the Soho Foundry, The Property of Messrs. W. & T. Avery, Ld. Taken & valued by T. Bernard Hall, Assoc. M. Inst. C. E. 119 Colmore Row, Birmingham.' Boulton and Watt had this factory built in 1796, specifically for the manufacture of their steam engines. Their sons, M.R. Boulton and James Watt Jr, guided the firm into the 1840s, branching out into steam boat engines. The business continued as ‘James Watt & Co’ until 1895, when Soho Foundry was bought by W&T Avery.
