Description:This memorandum sets out the terms upon which the coachman and footman were employed at Soho House. By this date Soho was the home to Matthew Robinson Boulton and his young family. William Newbold the Coachman had come from Edward Abney's at Measham Hall (between Tamworth and Ashby de la Zouch). He entered upon his service on 22 May 1819 at wages of £26/5/- per year. His clothing allowance was 2 livery coats, 2 livery waistcoats, 2 pairs of breeches, 1 pair of boots, 2 hats, 1 stable jacket, 1 pair of overalls annually and one great coat every 2 years. Thomas Wells the Footman came from Lovettes of Belmont near Oswestry. He entered his service on 1 May 1819 at wages of £14/14/-. His clothes allowance was 2 livery coats, 2 livery waistcoats, 2 pairs of Breeches, 1 dressing jacket and 1 Great coat every 2 years.
