Description:This memorandum sets out the salary and allowances for George ?Howood the Groom who came to on Soho August 14th 1830. By this time Soho House was the home of Matthew Robinson Boulton, the son of Matthew Boulton. For his first year the groom got clothes and maintenance only, for his second clothes, maintenance and 5 guineas, rising to 8 then 11 guineas for his third and fourth years. His livery consisted of 1 suit, stable dress (clothes for wearing in the stables, not a dress!) and a pair of boots per year. He also received a hat and great coat every 2 years. This later increased to 2 suits of livery per year and 2 hats per year, one of which was a present.
