Description:This photograph shows the trial for cleaning the cornice in the bedroom of Matthew Boulton's daughter at Soho House. The cornice had been painted over many times so the detail had been lost as can be seen on the extreme left of this photograph. The cornice was cleaned by applying a chemical pack which softened the paint sufficiently to allow it to be removed. A trial was carried out on this small area to ensure that this method would not damage the cornice.
