Description:This section of wallpaper was found in the Drawing Room at Soho House, the former home of Matthew Boulton now a museum. Initial survey work was undertaken prior to restoring the house to its appearance around 1795 when Boulton was living there. At first it was felt that this Pompeian style panelled wallpaper scheme was of this date but chemical analysis of the colours showed that they included chrome yellow and emerald green which were not available until 1814, after Boulton's death. A different paper was chosen for reproduction to recreate Boulton's Drawing Room but this paper was removed and conserved.
